Live in Thanksgiving Daily

Wednesday, November 23, 2011

As I sit here on the eve of Thanksgiving, I can’t help but think of the many things I am grateful for.   I am so thankful for my family. Russ is so good to me and the children and he works so hard for our little family.  He truly is the best.  Spencer, Hyrum, Jessica, and Hunter…they are so sweet.  We got up this morning and cleaned house so everything would be nice and in order for Thanksgiving.  They were great helpers.

After cleaning house, I wanted to get my errands done, so I could come back and work in the office.  I checked the mail on my way out, and there it was…another generous friend sending a check in the mail to help Spencer get to Carnegie Hall.  I am grateful for all those who have been so willing to give.

Spencer and I were talking this week about raising money for this trip.  Neither one of us like asking for help, but know that we could not make this trip happen without every single person and their generosity.

Thank you, each of you, for your love, support and friendship.   Spencer has decided this is his Christmas wish this year.  Thank you for helping make it happen for him.

Enjoy this wonderful time with family and loved ones.  Happy Thanksgiving!

PLEASE Help this wonderful young man get to Carnegie Hall

I talked Wendy into doing this blog, as a way for her to share the accomplishments of Spencer, her son, and to keep everyone updated on their trip to Carnegie Hall.

With all of the bad things in the world, it is nice to have something wonderful happening right here in our own neck of the woods.  And, when you have a young man like Spencer, working so hard to be the best he can be, I feel like we should surround him with our support and encouragement.

What I quickly learned, was that this is one of the most modest families I have ever know. Getting Wendy to openly brag about how wonderful her son is, will be a challenging task.  BUT, if I can get her started, she is such a proud mom that, she won't be able to stop herself from sharing his wonderfulness.  <*grinning*>.  I know I can't do justice, but I will do my best.

I have only know Spencer for a short period of time, but what I have learned is that, this is a magnificent young man.

Spencer is 17 years old and a Senior.  He is currently a straight A student, and has held straight A’s his entire school career.  WOW! He is also an Eagle Scout and had the honor of carrying the US flag, at the 100th birthday celebration, of the Boy Scouts of America.  It consisted of walking from Raley field, to the State Capital, in Sacramento.  Spencer has been playing the piano for 9 years and has nurtured his musical talents and become an exceptional pianist.  His passion though, is singing.  He participated in the Barbershop Youth Chorus Festival, this past January in Las Vegas, where 19 chorus's from around the world (including Canada and New Zealand) competed.  The chorus Spencer sang in, The Really Big Quartet, won 5th place.

BUT, Spencer is more than this though.  He is a giving, caring and wonderful person.  There is no way to really express all of Spencer's wonderful accomplishments here.  Right now, his main goal is to follow through with his current accomplishment, performing at Carnegie Hall.

He was recently invited to participate with a youth barbershop chorus to sing at Carnegie Hall, NYC,  to benefit the Japanese Tsunami Victims.  The youth barbershop chorus will be sharing the stage with a youth Japanese Orchestra. What an honor this is!

Which brings us to this blog and the fundraising efforts of his family.  Spencer is raising money to make his dream, of performing at Carnegie Hall and supporting the Japanese Tsunami Victims, come true.  As you know, the holiday season, is one of the most magical times of the year.  It is meant to be shared with family.  BUT, it is also some of the  busiest and stressful times of the year, especially when you need to travel across the country to be in New York, the day after Christmas.  This is not a trip that everyone was planning, and it is not a time of year, when you separate from your family either.  So, they have decided to go as a family and support Spencer.  PLEASE HELP ME, by helping this family get to New York!  There are a lot of details that go into planning this trip; airfare, lodging, food, rental car, etc.

At this time of year, this will be very expensive,  so they need our help.  There is a donation button right at the top of this blog, please consider donating today.  Did I mention that it is a tax deductible contribution!!   SO, if you are a business, or work for someone who may be willing to sponsor Spencer's trip, PLEASE DONATE.  This really is a good cause.
